The Rotary Club of Maplewood will honor Beth Daugherty with its 2010 Citizenship Award at the annual Affair of the Heart Dinner Dance on Feb. 27.
Daugherty, a member of the Maplewood-South Orange Board of Education, grew up in Richmond, Va., and moved to New York City after earning a bachelor’s degree in systems engineering from the University of Virginia.
She met her husband, Paul, while working at Accenture and they moved to Maplewood in 1991. They have four children: Emma, 18, Jesse, 16, Johnny, 15, and Lucy, 12.
Daugherty became involved with the Newcomer’s Club and chaired its Children’s Interests Committee soon after moving to Maplewood. Once her children started school, she served in the PTAs from preschool through high school. As president of the Jefferson School PTA, she initiated an indoor recess program during the winter months and an after school homework club for struggling students. Daugherty expanded her fundraising abilities as a trustee for the South Orange-Maplewood Education Foundation, where she worked to expand the teacher grant program.
