WRESTLING:
MAPLEWOOD - John Tush of Maplewood placed third in the Veterans
World Freestyle Wrestling Championship this past August in Ankara,
Turkey. To get to the world stage, Tush won the Veterans U.S.
Freestyle Championship in Las Vegas in April. Tush is a lifelong
wrestler, but even he was not prepared for the thrills he would
live through this summer. With his family in tow, he made it clear
what a job the U.S. Wrestling Organization did, and how proud he
was to win a medal for the U.S. Tush’s wrestling career lists quite
a few accomplishments: two-time New York State prep champion,
Hunter College Hall of Fame and Pennsylvania Conference placewinner
at East Stroudsburg University. He also is a very successful coach.
He has coached multiple high school state finalists, and was a
Division 1 assistant at Manahattan College, which won coaching
staff of the year twice in the New England Conference. He is a
committee member of the New York Athletic club, and is the head
coach of the Millburn Recreation wrestling organization. Tush and
his family have lived in Maplewood for eight years, and is always
trying to find ways to help train the kids of Millburn, Maplewood
and South Orange.
